Dead Island Riptide Coming in 2013

Dead Island came out last year and people seemed to like it. The game shipped over 3 million copies and is also getting its own spin-off game. Earlier this summer another Dead Island game, Dead Island Riptide, was announced and now Joystiq has given us some more details on the game.

For starters, it’s not a sequel. Publisher Deep Silver has wanted to make that very clear. It’s a spin-off type thing, like Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. The game will also be returning to melee combat, since the first game gave you more guns and shit near the end I guess.

The engine from the first game will be upgraded for this new one, including a new weather system. This new system will introduce flooding to the mix and will also have players going for lovely canoe rides around the island while beating the undead to death with paddles. Their will also be some forts that need defending, kind of like the Call of Duty zombie games from the sounds of it.

Players will be able to import their character stats from the first game, too.

The game will take place on the same archipelago as the first game, just on a different island.

Dead Island Riptide is due out in 2013.
