Age of Ultron Details Revealed

Last week Marvel released a teaser image that wasn’t the 8 billionth “The Future of Marvel NOW!”, but instead was a page with some binary on it teasing the upcoming Age of Ultron event. This has been in the works for a while now, and some people were thinking that the teaser images for Punisher: War Zone were actually for AoU. But now we’ve had our actually teaser and yesterday the team behind the story revealed some details about it.

The story will be happening in its own ten issue miniseries which will be released from March to June 2013. Brian Michael Bendis will be writing the series. The art for the first half of the series will be handled by Bryan Hitch, while Brandon Peterson and Carlos Pacheco will draw the back half. It does seem a bit weird to switch out artists half-way through a miniseries, but Marvel’s Director of Communications Arune Singh said that, “There will be a very cool reason for the artistic shift.”

The series will follow the Avengers in the “darkest days of the Marvel Universe.” Ultron, the evil robot Hank Pym created and continuous enemy of the Avengers, has taken over the world and the remaining heroes must fight to survive. Bendis said about the series:

“In the vein of Infinity GauntletSecret Invasion and Civil WarAge of Ultron is a massive Marvel Universe-spanning Event. One of our most famous villains, Ultron, the super artificial intelligence, has fulfilled his destiny and taken the Earth. This story touches every corner of the Marvel Universe and will have an amazing effect on things going forward. We have taken the time to do this right- everything is gorgeous, every page matters, and most of all- something I’m very proud of- is that it will be shipping at a furious pace. Every day for the last year and a half people have been asking me when this story will come and I’m thrilled to announce that it is here.”

People who picked up the POINT ONE issue that was released last year got a taste of what was come with Age of Ultron. For those of us who didn’t, Marvel has been kind enough to release some art to get us hyped.
