Gail Simone is Still Writing Batgirl
If there’s one thing that comic book fans are good at it’s bitching. We can bitch about anything. Sometimes, our bitching has amazing powers. Back in the day, when Hal Jordan went evil and was replaced by Kyle Rayner, fans bitched to DC so hard about how they wanted Hal exonerated of all the shit he did as Parallax and for him to be the Green Lantern again, and it worked. Now fanboy bitching has saved the day yet again.
Earlier this month, writer Gail Simone said on Twitter that the new editor of Batgirl, Brian Cunningham, had let her know by email that she was no longer going to be writing the series. This announcement right the fuck out of nowhere and was a big shock to Simone as well as all of her fans. So, fans took to the interwebs and started their campaign to get Simone back on Batgirl.
And it worked. A few days ago, Simone posted the following on her Twitter:
Here's a thing. Gail Simone is the new Batgirl writer. 🙂
— GAIL SIMONE (@GailSimone) December 21, 2012
Which was followed by the following post on her Tumblr:
I KNOW WHO THE NEXT WRITER ON BATGIRL IS…
…and her name is ME!
I am typing this on a snowy road, cell service is about to disappear, I know everyone has a million questions, but…
Thank you to DC for this privilege, and a million thank yous to everyone who wanted to see this happen.
I am ECSTATIC.
I am ecstatic, too. I have been really loving Batgirl and a huge part of that is Simone’s writing. The rest is the artwork, which is great. Ray Fawkes, who was announced to be writing a two part arc to fill in after Simone’s no longer final issue, will most likely still be writing that. So we have two more issues with Simone, a two month break, and then she will be back in issue 20.
