Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Announced

In February some images started to surface that pointed to a new Assassin’s Creed game involving pirates. Since then, details have been released about the next installment in Ubisoft’s stabbing franchise, and it does indeed involve pirates.

The game will be called Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and be connected to AC3 by way of the player character. Players will be taking control of Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather of Connor. Edward was originally a privateer for the British Navy. After whatever war is period appropriate, Edward and his crew became pirates and they eventually became caught up in the Assassin/Templar war.

It will take place in the West Indies and have over 50 locations to explore on multiple islands including Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas. Along the way you will run into famous pirates from the era like Blackbeard and Charles Vane.

Like in AC3, there will be naval combat missions. But, since this is a game about pirates, you will also be able to plunder ships you attack, stealing their cargo and gaining booty to upgrade your ship and bring on more crewmen. There will also be a diving mode, allowing players to go into the depths and search for sunken treasure or some shit.

On top of the standard arsenal of the Assassins, Ubisoft has said that there will also be “armaments of the era,” like flintlock pistols. They said the game will “reward both daring and stealth,” which could mean more emphasis has been put on the action. Also there’s multiplayer.

Below, you’ll find the first trailer released for the game. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is set for release on October 29th on the Xbox 360, PC, Wii U, PS3 and PS4 (both of which will have exclusive content), and other next-gen consoles.
