Monster House Director to Direct Poltergeist Remake

Poltergeist is one of the best known horror movies of all time. It’s iconic story, memorable scenes, and quotable lines have been used again and again in movies, TV shows, and many other mediums. So it’s surprising to me that it’s taken Hollywood over 30 years to decide to remake the damn thing. I mean, they just announced who they have directing it.

Deadline is reporting that MGM has hired Gil Kenan to direct the remake of the horror classic. Kenan is best known for directing City of Ember in 2008 and, more fittingly, Monster House in 2006.

While I’ve never seen City of EmberMonster House was really good. It had a similar premise to Poltergeist, had plenty of cool horror movie-light visuals for adults and was still for kids. He could actually make this remake not suck. But, since he’s only done movies for younger people up to this point, there’s always the possibility that he can’t step up for an actual scary movie.

The remake is being produced by Sam Raimi, Nathan Kahane, and Roy Lee.
