Greg Pak and Jonathan Coulton Unveil Code Monkey Save World
Many gamers know the song writing of Jonathan Coulton through Portal and Portal 2. Jonathan has actually been in the song writing business a while and has made some music that tell some fairly detailed, if odd, stories. Listening to songs with such rich characters has inspired the creation of Code Monkey Save World, a graphic novel based on songs by Coulton and comic book writer Greg Pak. The story will follow Code Monkey (from the song Code Monkey) teaming up with Skullcrusher (from the song Skullcrusher Mountain) as they deal with unrequited love, robots, zombies and more.
This all started when Pak posted a tweet saying “It occurs to me that you could field a pretty awesome supervillain team with characters from @jonathancoulton songs.” to which Coulton replied “DO IT”. The project was taken to Kickstarter April 15, 2013, with a goal of $39,000. At time of posting (April 15,2013) the project has raised $58,504. Not only is it very well funded, the graphic novel also has a pretty awesome creative team behind it. Pak (Planet Hulk, Batman/Superman) will be writing, with Takeshi Miyazawa (Runaways) doing the art, Jessica Kholinne (X-Treme X-Men) coloring, and Simon Bowland (Incredible Hercules) lettering.
Go to the Kickstarter page and support this project and you can get some of the awesome rewards which include early access to the graphic novel and music inspired by the novel by Jonathan Coulton.
