William Fichtner to Play Shredder in Ninja Turtles

Last month, it was announced that William Fichtner had joined the cast of the Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, but it wasn’t revealed who he would be playing. When we reported on this, I guessed that he would either be playing Shredder, Krang, or Baxter Stockman. Just gonna say, “Called it!”

In a recent interview with HuffPost TV Canada about Crossing Lines, Fichtner revealed that he would be donning the pointy helmet of Oroku Saki to fight the Turtles next summer. When asked about Ninja Turtles in the interview, Fichtner said…

I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, “Really? Let me think about this for a minute.” [Laughs] Then I was like, “Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.” I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.

Now while I did kinda guess this, I’m not really excited about this. For one, this remake is going to be shit so why get excited about anything? But also this is similar problem to the one I have with Danny Woodburn as Splinter. Shredder is a character who is supposed to demand your attention with his voice. It’s deep, menacing, and kinda cancer sounding. I don’t know if Fichtner can pull it off.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes out on June 6th, 2014.
