Vin Diesel to Play Groot Maybe in Guardians of the Galaxy

There have been a lot of rumors going around about who Vin Diesel will be playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the most common ones I’ve heard being Thanos or Vision. So the possibility was there that he could be in Guardians of the Galaxy. But not once did I guess this.

Deadline is reporting that the Fast and Furious star is in negotiations to play Groot, the tree alien, in the James Gunn directed sci-fi movie. Diesel himself has hinted at this. Earlier this week he posted a picture of Groot on his Facebook wall and even had it as his cover image for a while.

For those who don’t know, Groot was originally introduced in the Age of Monsters at Marvel. After some time passed he was eventually rolled into the Guardians of the Galaxy and has been with them ever since. He is from a species called Floral Colossus, which was thought to be extinct. He has the ability to control trees and wood, including creating mini copies of himself. If he is gravely injured he can regrow by absorbing wood or if he is planted. Because of larynx he is only able to say “I am Groot,” but he is still capable of communicating with people he can read what he’s saying beneath that.

This is one of the weirder casting choices I’ve seen recently. I mean, I know Vin Diesel can be pretty wooden at times, but this is just ridiculous. Also who the fuck is playing Rocket Raccoon?

Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on August 1st, 2014.
