Andy Serkis to Direct Warner Bros’ Jungle Book

serkispost

A couple of weeks back, seeing as how I’m terrible at my job, I found out that there are currently two live-action Jungle Book movies in the works. One is under the direction of Jon Favreau for Disney and just cast Idris Elba as Shere Khan. The other is being done by Warner Bros. and they just picked a director. It’s an interesting choice.

Warner Bros. has announced that Andy Serkis has signed on to direct the studio’s adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling book. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was originally planned to direct but dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. Ron Howard was in talks to direct recently, but it didn’t pan out. And I’m quite glad about it.

This will be Serkis’ feature directorial debut and it could turn out to be really cool. With Serkis helming the project he could lead it towards a live-action/CG hybrid film like the stuff he’s best known for doing. All the animals would have their facial expressions mo-capped by the actual actors playing them. It would be cool to see, I think.

No release date or casting details have been announced.
