Paramount TV Developing Show Based on The Truman Show

Paramount relaunched their television branch last year, and recently started bringing in new executives to help bolster their forces. They’ve started development on a series based on Beverly Hills Cop, and this week they’ve announced a few more series they’re working on, including one that makes very little sense.

TheWrap is reporting that three new series are currently in development at Paramount TV: One is based on the Caleb Carr novel The Alienist, one is based on the Terminator series, and the final one based on the 1998 Jim Carrey movie The Truman Show.

For those who don’t know, The Truman Show is a movie about a man whose entire life was manufactured for the sake of 24 hour reality TV show. Everything about Truman’s life is fake: His friends, his education, his work, his love life, his family, his whole goddamn town. It’s an interesting and really skeevy idea for a movie, but it is insane to try to make a TV show about this.

Trying to make a show that is about a guy who discovers that his life is actually show before escaping to a world that isn’t a show is ridiculous. It makes head hurt just thinking about. But who knows, it might turn into something really awesome. Probably not, though.
