Sierra Entertainment, Back in Action!

sierrapost

Sierra Entertainment was a mainstay and pioneer in the early days of adventure RPGs in the olden days of floppy-disk PC games. I clearly remember being a wee lad running around in the Montgomery Ward electronics department drooling over the screenshots of the wicked 256 color VGA graphics of King’s Quest V… Man, those were the days!

Unfortunately, like many of those early devs, Sierra finally ran out of track in 2007/8 and was left on the shelf at Activision/Blizzard. Well, the day has finally come for Sierra to step back out into the light and they have already announced their next title, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions.

Sure it’s a far cry from their previous works, but at least they’re back! They are back in action as a publisher and their new games are being developed with a couple of start-ups The Odd Gentleman and Lucid Games. In fact, the Odd Gentlemen will actually be developing a new King’s Quest game!

The official press release states…

Huge fans of the original King’s Quest series, The Odd Gentlemen are crafting a charming new adventure with an awe-inspiring art style, engaging puzzles, and a wondrous interactive narrative brimming with humor. In the new story, King Graham – revered as the greatest adventurer to ever live – shares his life’s adventures with his curious granddaughter, Gwendolyn. It is through these tales that Gwendolyn discovers the true greatness of her grandfather.

King’s Quest is one of Sierra’s most memorable and endearing series, the new entry will be an all-new chapter in the series, but also a re-imagination of the RPG adventure. The way things are going in the area of adventure games these days, they may have a solid place in the market with as much experience as they have. Best wishes to those guys!
