DCUO Going Free To Play

In less than a year Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe Online is going the free-to-play.

IGN reports that in October PS3 and PC gamers will be able to download and play DCUO for free of charge. SOE is hoping to make its money from in-game micro-transactions, encouraging players to buy with a “Premium” title.

The “Premium” title will come to those that have spend at least five dollars on in game items. These benefits include additional character slots, additional inventory and more. There will also be a “Legendary” service to any of those who choose to pay a monthly fee of $14.99 (US). This service includes more than 15 character slots, over 80 inventory slots, and most importantly all future DLC that will come out.

SOE executive producer Lorin Jameson told IGN that a drop in subscriptions is not the reason behind this change from a monthly fee to free to play.

“This is the right business model,” Jameson says. “If I can be honest, the game ended up costing a lot more than we thought it would, and this was our preferred business model from day one.”

  • It is ok, go buy a new one.
And really, this is the only reason you had to keep a PS3? Not all the amazing exclusive titles and free online play?

and yeah, i was always more of a pc gamer anyways. I really never played my ps3 much, except for the first free month that the DCUO came with.
