Jon Bernthal Cast as Punisher in Daredevil Season 2
James has bitching and moaning about getting the Punisher into the MCU for what feels like forever. I guess somebody was listening to him.
Marvel has announced that Jon Bernthal, probably best known for his role as Shane on AMC’s The Walking Dead, has been cast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Punisher, who’ll be making his debut in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil. For those who don’t know, the Punisher, a.k.a. Frank Castle, is a military veteran who commits himself to killing the criminal element in New York City after his family is killed in Central Park in a mob shootout.
Jeph Loeb, head of television at Marvel, said with the announcement…
Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.
Shortly after the announcement, Bernthal tweeted out the following…
Thanks for the love yall. Let’s get it. Honored. pic.twitter.com/ZQ4xNfocHH

While I’m not the biggest fan of what they did with Shane in The Walking Dead show, Bernthal was usually the actor I liked best on the show. I think he’ll make a decent Punisher, and it will be interesting seeing how he’s worked into the story of Daredevil next season.
Daredevil Season 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix in 2016.
