Might and Delight Reveal Pid

Earlier today in a livestream on Giant Bomb Adam Boyes of Beefy Media announced Pid, the first game from new developers Might and Delight.

According to the livestream, Pid is a puzzle-platformer with a gravity manipulation mechanic. The story of the game is that you play as a young boy on his way home from space school. He falls asleep on the space bus and wakes up on a mystery planet. Your goal from there is to get home and solve whatever problems the various robots on the planet cause.

The game is, at its core, a platformer according to Boyes. Some sections will have you doing just straight up platforming while others are puzzle focused and others are combat focused. The mechanic that separates it from other platformers is the gravity manipulation. Players will be given two gems that can produce gravity jet looking things that can attract and repel the player, the enemies and objects in the environment. These can be used to get you on to platforms you cannot reach, use the momentum from multiple jets to launch yourself on to platforms and to push enemies into spikes and lasers and whatnot. It can also be used for the combat. Jets can be used to redirect missiles into enemies and the gems can activate the various traps in the environment.

The game also features a multiplayer mode. In it two players are set into the world, each with one of these gems. Players will have to work together to make it through the puzzles and action sequences throughout the game. But, since this is 2011, there is opportunity to be a colossal dick. Both player controls one of these jets each, including the ability to turn them off at will. So if you are in a sticky situation and you need your partner’s jet to reach a certain part, no doubt during at least one of your attempts your partner can and will deactivate their jet thus fucking up your strategy and possibly killing you.

While at this time the game does not have a publisher, Might and Delight are hoping for a release in the back half of 2012 on XBLA, PSN and PC.

This is one of the more interesting games I have seen in a while and I will make sure to report back with anymore news I hear about it.
