SciShow “Worst Movie Science of 2011” Award

If you spend a lot of time on YouTube you may be familiar with SciShow. The science based news show hosted by Hank Green. They recently handed out an award for the “Worst Movie Science of 2011”.

The Nominees:

Rise of The Planet of The Apes: The bad science being the Caesar inherits genes from his mother that were introduced by genetic testing after he was conceived.

Melancholia: The bad science being that a planet approaches Earth on a collision course unnoticed because it was hidden by the sun.

Transformers Dark of The Moon: The bad science being the idea that you can land on the moon and wait for it to rotate away from the Earth so that you cannot be observed (the science of giant robots that can turn into cars is left alone).

The nominees were told to the audience who were then able to vote on which film they thought had the worst science.

The winner was Transformers Dark of The Moon on the grounds that the science is so basic and yet gets completely ignored.
