Disney Confirms Four New Movies

Apparently some big thing is going on right now in Vegas called CinemaCon and Disney has made some announcements there. First up, they confirmed that there is going to be a sequel to last year’s The Muppets. The sequel will be directed by James Bobin, who directed the first one, and will be written by Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, who co-wrote the first movie with Jason Segel. Segel will not be involved in the sequel.

After that they announced three new movies coming from Pixar. And they are:

The Good Dinosaur

This is an interesting little what-if story that begs the question: What if they meteor that killed off the dinosaurs never hit Earth? From the co-writer of Up, who also voiced Dug in that movie, The Good Dinosaur will show us a world where dinosaurs still roam earth in present day. Whether the dinosaurs will have evolved along side us so there are no dino-men walking remains to be seen. Though I really, really hope they don’t go down the same road as the Super Mario Bros. movie and just make the dino-people look like regular people but with jump boots and kinda fucked up faces on some of them.

The Good Dinosaur is scheduled for release on May 30th, 2014.

Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind

According to the announcement Disney-Pixar made:

“Pixar takes audiences on incredible journeys into extraordinary worlds: from the darkest depths of the ocean to the top of the tepui mountains in South America; from the fictional metropolis of Monstropolis to a futuristic fantasy of outer space. From director Pete Docter (Up, Monsters, Inc.) and producer Jonas Rivera (Up), the inventive new film will take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.”

From reading that it sounds like this is Pixar’s stab at something like Inception or The Cell, which I think sounds fucking awesome. With everything being animated it would open up so many more possibilities for insane dream shit. This is the movie I am most excited they announced.

Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind is scheduled for release on June 19th, 2015.

Untitled Pixar Movie About Dia de los Muertos

According to the Disney-Pixar announcement:

“From director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson, the filmmaking team behind the Academy Award-winning Toy Story 3, comes a wholly original Pixar Animation Studios film that delves into the vibrant holiday of Día de los Muertos.”

That isn’t much to go on and I don’t know much about the actual holiday itself, but I’m optimistic. Lee Unkrich who, like the announcement said, directed Toy Story 3 has also co-directed Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo, which were all fucking awesome. I’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and I will be looking forward to this movie.

Untitled Pixar Movie About Dia de los Muertos has no confirmed release date yet.
