Andy Serkis to Play Villain in Volume

You would think that Andy Serkis, a man whose entire career is reliant on motion capture, would be more involved with video games. Games have been using mo-cap for a while now, and in more ways than movies ever have. At one point, a developer mo-capped a horse. So the fact that Serkis has only worked on three games is kind of weird. But what’s also weird (and kind of awesome) is that his next game appearance will be in game developed by the guy who made Thomas Was Alone.

It was announced this week Mike Bithell, developer of Thomas Was Alone, has managed to get Serkis to voice Guy Gisborne, the villain in his upcoming games Volume. While speaking with Gamasutra, Bithell said that with the help of British casting Side, he was able to get his “dream actor” for the role…

We’d been looking for an actor to play Gisborne for a while, and even come close to casting it with different folks. After one of those attempts fell through, it was a back to the drawing board moment, and I decided to stop compromising, and go for my dream actor for the role – who I’d get if practicality and reality weren’t an issue.

For those who don’t know, Volume is a modern take on the story of Robin Hood, where you play as Rob Locksley. Guy Gisborne is based on a character of almost the same name, who is re-envisioned in the game as the CEO of a company who took over England.

Volume is set for release in 2015 on PS4, PS Vita, and PC.
