Ouya Gets OnLive

The Ouya console is shaping up to be something kind of awesome. With the Kickstarter already up to $5.8 million at time of writing with over 45,000 backers, we are definitely going to be seeing this console. And it gets even more awesome because you will be able to play big AAA titles on the Android that’s no bigger than a Rubik’s Cube. How will this be achieved? By streaming the games through OnLive.

In an update on Friday, Ouya announced that they have partnered up with game streaming service to bring you all the latest big name games on demand through OnLive. Bruce Grove, the general manager of OnLive, posted this statement with the update:

“When OnLive first heard about OUYA, we were excited to see console gaming becoming more available and open. Like OUYA, we came to gaming with a new vision for making top-quality gaming accessible to more people, and we continue to look for ways to expand on that vision.

OUYA is rethinking the console business, making waves by using standard technology to make gaming for your living room accessible, affordable and more innovative than ever. In OnLive’s case, we pioneered a groundbreaking, cloud-based system that instantly delivers games to any device on demand.

We are pleased to announce that OnLive will be available on OUYA at launch, extending and building on our commitment to make the best games available to everyone, everywhere.”

With OnLive on the Ouya, players will have access to hundreds of games from over 80 different publishers. Every game will let players play 30 minutes of the game for free before they decide to buy. The games also work across every device that supports OnLive, so you can start playing a game on the Ouya then pick it up again somewhere else on a PC or tablet.

I am getting really excited for Ouya. I cannot wait for this thing to come out next year. Less than 10 days left to contribute to the Kickstarter, so give them your money and help make this thing even more of a reality than it already will be.
