We didn’t report on this but a little while back it looked like the Beverly Hills Cop film series was going to be coming back on the smaller screen with a new series that landed at CBS. It would star Brandon T. Jackson as Axel Foley’s son with Eddie Murphy, star of the films, reprising his role. The show got a pilot but didn’t end up going to series. People apparently liked Murphy back in the role, though, so yeah, Beverly Hills Cop 4 is a thing now.

Deadline is reporting that Paramount is fast tracking a new installment in the franchise and have tapped Murphy to come back as Foley. The studio has also hired Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, writers of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles abomination, to write the script.

No word if Jackson or anyone else involved in the pilot will be appearing in the new movie or if Paramount has scrapped all of that and are starting from scratch.
