DC Cancels Larfleeze with Issue 12

While the main Green Lantern book is steaming pile of crap and hypocrisy (seriously, look up something about the current arc. It’s insane), some of the other tie-in titles are actually pretty okay. New Guardians is interesting, Red Lanterns is the first comic to make anything related to Guy Gardner not shit, and Larfleeze is fucking awesome. So, of course, Larfleeze is selling poorly and getting cancelled.

In a recent PR blast for the second TPB of Larfleeze, a kind of vague sentence at the end led many to believe that the book was being cancelled…

Written by the legendary creative team of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis, LARFLEEZE VOL. 2 conclude their run on the renegade Orange Lantern of Avarice. Collects issues #6-12.

Shortly afterwards, a DC representative clarified things, confirming that Larfleeze is being cancelled and that issue 12 will be the final issue of the series. The cancellation comes after months of losing readers of the book. When the series first launched it sold over 36,000 issues. But this February issue 8 only sold just over 13,000.

This is a crying shame. As I said above, I love Larfleeze, both the book and the character. And what Giffen and DeMatteis were doing in their book was pretty cool. But Larfleeze isn’t one of the main DC characters, so his book gets cancelled but fucking Superman gets to keep going because yeah.

Larfleeze issue 12 goes on sale June 25th, 2014, and Larfleeze vol. 2 goes on sale December 30th, 2014.
