Halo 4’s Multiplayer Requires an 8GB Install

In a recent update on the Xbox site, it said that in order to play Halo 4‘s multiplayer mode players would need to install an 8GB thing on to their consoles or other storage devices. Keep in mind, it didn’t say that it would make the game better or anything. You need to install the 8 gigs in order to play the multiplayer at all.

I believe this is the first time with a Halo game that one has had to install a mandatory thing in order to play multiplayer. But it does make some sense that they would need an install for the multiplayer because it is the first time they have done this kind of multiplayer.

Halo 4‘s multiplayer is broken up into two separate game types: War Games and Spartan Ops. War Games is your standard Halo fare, with players facing off against each other in classic game modes as well as some new ones. Spartan Ops, on the other hand, is an episodic co-operative game that will have players running through new weekly, story-based missions. So my guess is the 8GB minimum hard drive space needed for the multiplayer is for Spartan Ops, mostly.

On top of that, the post also says that for players to have an “optimal experience” they will need to install the entire game on to their hard drives. No news on how big that install file will be, but I’m guessing pretty fucking huge.

Halo 4 comes out November 6th, 2012.
