Locke and Key Getting a Film Trilogy

Locke and Key is fucking awesome. That’s all I can really say on the series without repeating the same things I’ve said every time I talk about the series. Since the series is so awesome, and with comic book movies making a killing in recent years, I’m actually a little surprised no one made anything out of it. They did try, mind you. Back in 2010 (or 2011, not entirely sure) Dreamworks got their hands on the rights and made a pilot for Fox with a pretty decent looking cast. Fox, however, didn’t pick up the series. But now Universal has the rights and they’re doing something with them

Latino Review reports that Universal is currently developing a film adaptation of the IDW series. But not just one film. Universal is making this shit into a trilogy of films. When I read that I squeed a bit. The first film is being written and produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, a team that worked on the unaired pilot and co-created Fringe. No word on who will direct or star.

For those who don’t know the series, first punch yourself in your respective genitals then keep reading. The books follow the Locke family who, after their father is murdered, move to their ancestral home Keyhouse in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. Keyhouse is more aptly named than they realized, as the kids of the family discover dozens of keys. When used on the right doors or something, they have amazing powers, like ripping the soul from someone’s body, changing someone’s gender, or giving someone the ability to control shadows.

I cannot wait for this movie to come out.
