Galaxy Quest TV Show Back on Track at Amazon with Paul Scheer

Back in 2015, it was announced that a TV show based on the 1999 film Galaxy Quest was in development. Now, over two years later, things are finally happening with the project.

Deadline is reporting that Paul Scheer (NTSF:SD:SUV::The League, Veep) has been set to write the series for Amazon. Scheer said in a statement…

Without giving much away, I don’t think there has ever been a better time to continue the Galaxy Quest story with the explosion and popularity of sci-fi films in recent years. To be able to create and be a part of this world is just mind-blowing, and I’m approaching this truly as what I’d like to see as a fan.

At this point it is unclear if original stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shaloub, or Sam Rockwell will be involved in the new series, but it’s still early.

For those who don’t know, Galaxy Quest is a film about the stars of an old Star Trek-esque show finding themselves involved in a real alien conflict and having to essentially become their characters from the show. It is a fantastic movie, and one of the best Star Trek films ever made.
